Roof Soft Washing & Black Streak Removal

Those black streaks running down a shingle roof are usually a type of algae (Gloeocapsa magma) feeding on the limestone filler in the shingles. Left alone, the streaks spread, and moss and lichen can lift shingle edges and hold moisture against the roof.

A roof should never be pressure washed. High pressure strips the protective granules and shortens the life of the roof. We clean roofs with a soft wash: a cleaning solution applied at very low pressure that kills the growth, which then rinses away on its own and with rain.
